Introducing Our August 2025 Resident Artist: Hasura Akther Rumky - Image 1

A Studio, A Story, A Solo Exhibition — All in the Making at Gallery Lumina

Gallery Lumina is pleased to welcome the deeply expressive and intuitively driven Hasura Akther Rumky as our Resident Artist, from August 11 to 31, 2025. Over the course of these three weeks, Rumky will transform our studio into a space of experimentation and reflection, producing a new body of work that will culminate in her upcoming solo exhibition, drawn entirely from this residency period.

A Voice Rooted in Earth, Memory, and Intimacy

Born in Bangladesh, Rumky completed both her BFA and MFA in Oriental Art at the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Dhaka. Her work draws from lived experience and emotional nuance—quietly unfolding stories of connection, tenderness, loss, and the stillness between moments.

Her materials—pastel, acrylic, charcoal, soil, sand—are selected not only for their physical properties but for the memories they hold. Texture plays a central role in her practice; surfaces carry the weight of time, gesture, and touch. Each piece is both presence and trace.

Global Accolades, Deep Local Roots

Rumky’s career spans over a decade of active engagement with the contemporary art world. She has contributed to more than 100 exhibitions, residencies, workshops, and art camps, both in Bangladesh and internationally.

Her work has received significant recognition, including:

• OPSG Award (2025)

• Club for UNESCO & International Action Art Award for Cultural Contribution (2023)

• Grand Award, International Art Exhibition, KAHAL Art Gallery, Japan (2021)

• Honorable Mention, 6th Oriental Painting Exhibition (2016)

She is also a two-time recipient of the National Children’s Award (জাতীয় শিশু পুরস্কার). Between 2019 and 2022, she served as Assistant Coordinator of the Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where she played a key role in curatorial and educational development. Her dedication to mentorship continues to shape and inspire emerging artists across the region.

What to Expect at Gallery Lumina

During her residency, Rumky will be based in our on-site studio, developing an entirely new series of works. This focused time will allow her to explore materials and ideas with depth and immediacy—responding to the environment, her materials, and the evolving dialogue between concept and form.

The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition, showcasing this new body of work.

More than a presentation, it will be an invitation:

Into her process.

Into surfaces shaped by memory.

Into the quiet language of color, pigment, and space.

🗓 Residency: August 11–31, 2025

🎟 Solo Exhibition: Opening details to be announced

Updates from the studio and exhibition previews will be shared throughout the residency.
